Characteristics of the village of Les Rousses
The village of Les Rousses is located in the Haut-Jura region, on the border with Switzerland. A vast communal territory, it covers 38 km2 and the altitude ranges from 725 m to 1 m. The area has a continental mountain climate with harsh winters. It is the most populated village in the Les Rousses resort with 300 inhabitants (INSEE 3).
The landscapes are marked by the importance of forests and natural environments. Indeed, forests, mainly occupied by conifers, represent half of this region. The most important of these is the Risoux forest, famous for its cross-country ski trails and remarkable snowfall.
The village of Les Rousses also has a lake, born during the Ice Age. Formerly called Quinsonnets Lake, it is 2km long and 500m wide. It is surrounded by peat bogs.
