    The Woodcraft

The village of Bois-d'Amont specialized in the 19th century in spruce woodworking for woodworking and boissellerie. This involves the production of boxes and caskets of all kinds and sizes for various domestic uses such as shoe polish boxes, medicine boxes, sewing boxes, jewelry boxes, but also Comtoise clock cabinets linked to the booming watchmaking industry in Morez. This work is largely done by hand at home in family workshops that employ men and women, children and the elderly. A supplementary craft activity during the bad season, woodworking becomes the main activity of the village, which sees real businesses being created to meet the demand of an increasingly urban population.
