The Jura Mountains are a prime training ground for competitors. Thanks to their geographical and geological significance, high-performance infrastructure has been built to enable for high-level athletes to play on the world stage. The Station des Rousses, land of champions, welcomes the best teams from Europe every year to its various sites for training courses.

Local Champions 🏅

Jason Lamy Chappuis: He became the Olympic Nordic Combined Champion at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. An iconic figure in the sport, Jason won the World Championships five times and reached the podium 5 times in individual World Cup events. He also won four crystal globes.

Sébastien Lacroix: He competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing fourth with the French Nordic combined team. He became a double world champion in 2013 in Val di Fiemme, Italy, winning the four-man relay and the team event alongside Jason Lamy-Chappuis.

Laurent Muhlethaler: Originally from Prémanon, he won his first European Cup victory in 2014 and finished overall a few months later. He achieved a podium finish by taking third place in a World Cup event, making it his best result to date. 

Elie Nabot: A two-time gold medalist at the 2023 World Championships, he is one of the most prestigious French telemark skiers. In total, he has 34 podium finishes in the World Cup, including 9 victories, and has won two golden globes. 

Nathalie Bouvier: Winning a silver medal in the downhill at the 1991 Alpine Skiing World Championships, she confirmed her talent by winning the giant slalom World Cup the following year. A slope in the Tuffes Massif is named after her in honor of her achievements.

Vincent Gauthier-Manuel: Double silver medalist (super G and super combined), bronze medalist in alpine skiing at the Vancouver Paralympic Games in 2010 and Paralympic Giant Slalom Champion at the Sochi Games in 2014. That year, he was also flag bearer for the French Paralympic delegation.

Hugo Buffard : A child of Les Rousses, he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in 2014 and achieved his best result there, taking ninth place.

Key dates in the resort's tourism development

  • 1938 The first ski lift appears.
  • 1975 Thanks to the impact of the Grenoble Olympic Games, the Les Rousses resort is developing around Nordic skiing. A joint association bringing together the 4 villages is responsible for the management and development of cross-country skiing activities.
  • 1989 The commune of Les Rousses has created a sports club as an association. This club is responsible for managing all sports and tourist activities in the four communes.
  • 2002 : The Société de Gestion de la Station des Rousses (Sogestar) is created. SAEM is entrusted with the management of ski lifts, Nordic and summer activities, as well as the missions of the Tourist Office.
  • 2020 : In January, the Rousses resort hosts the Nordic events of the Lausanne Youth Olympic Games (ski jumping, biathlon, Nordic combined).
  • 2021 The new facilities allow the Tuffes massif to be linked to the Swiss massif of La Dôle. This operation gives full meaning to the new alpine ski area "Jura sur Léman".
