For lovers of wide open spaces , the Jura mountains are a true paradise on earth for cross-country skiing . Endless trails through the heart of the Jura forests and valleys make Les Rousses resort the largest Nordic ski area in France and one of the largest in Europe, with nearly 150 km of trails.
Cross-country skiing is deeply rooted in the identity of the Jura Mountains . It embodies a true philosophy, a way of life! Nestled in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, the cross-country ski area of the Les Rousses resort has been awarded the highest distinction of the Nordic France label (5 fir trees, excellence in cross-country skiing, activities, services and environment).
In the cross-country ski areas in the Jura, animals are only allowed in the “freedom” areas for everyone’s comfort.
Cross-country skiing: Ski schools

You'll always share great moments with passionate professionals who know the Jura mountains! They'll reveal the resort's secrets during day trips, half-day excursions, or nighttime outings. Choose your pass from the “ Pass'Nordic Station ” range which gives you access to:
- All the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails in the 4 villages of the Resort des Rousses.
- Free access to picnic areas and ski buses.
- The Marmousets play area in Bois d'Amont.

Smart tip
Beginner area at the Marmousets Play Area : in the heart of the village of Upstream Woods, It is accessible to all holders of a valid Nordic or Alpine “Jura sur Léman” Pass, regardless of its duration. Get started with skiing by combining technical learning and fun in this recreational area. You will find different workshops materialized such as small slaloms, bumps and initiation courses.
Opening hours: During (French) school holidays: every day from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m.
Outside school holidays: Wednesdays and weekends from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m.
For cross-country skiing beginners, also consider the Free spaces accessible free of charge, located in the center of the 4 villages.

The resort's slopes are linked to the neighboring ski areas of Hautes-Combes, Bellefontaine, Longchaumois, and even French-speaking Switzerland. Among the must-do experiences in the Jura region, try the Grande Traversée du Jura (Great Jura Crossing ). This 180 km route takes you across vast expanses, offering total immersion in a unique world with breathtaking landscapes.

We offer insurance so you can enjoy the snow with complete peace of mind. ASSUR'GLISSE insurance covers medical expenses, search and rescue operations on the slopes, and repatriation. Season insurance also covers loss or theft of your Pass (purchased more than 3 days prior). Coverage is valid for the duration of the Pass.

Cross-country skiing in the Jura: The trail of thoughts
The "Trail of Thoughts" is located in the Risoux forest (accessible from the villages of Les Rousses and Bois d'Amont, at the start of the Combe du Vert and Combettes trails). On this trail, cross-country skiers can now combine sport and reflection thanks to fifteen strategically placed panels. These panels feature philosophical or humorous quotes designed to help free the mind from daily worries. See the Nordic trail map here.
It should be noted
Some parts of the forests in our territory (Massacre, Sambine and Risoux) are classified as biotope area*, it is therefore forbidden to leave the marked and secured slopes, from December 15 to May 14. Inquire at the resort's tourist offices.
*A biotope zone is an area where specific regulations apply in order to preserve the wealth of wildlife, of which the Capercaillie is the emblem. You will find additional information here.
