Welcome

Getting around in nearby Switzerland

Don't forget your IDs or passports to get through customs.

The currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Prices are often given in CHF and in Euros. It is possible to pay in Euros at tourist sites, but change will be given in CHF. Swiss money can be withdrawn from some ATMs in the resort.

Road travel:
Anyone who travels on a Swiss motorway must place a "vignette" tax sticker on his or her windscreen. The vignette allows you to drive on Swiss motorways for an entire year (valid from December 1st of the previous year to January 31 of the following year). If you have a trailer or caravan, you will need to buy an additional vignette. No vignette is required on other roads. The motorway vignette is non-reimbursable. It costs CHF 40, or about €36. It can be purchased from Swiss service stations or Swiss border points. Geneva or Lausanne can also be reached on the regular roads.

Note that speed limits are different to those of France:
- 50km/h in metro areas
- 80km/h outside metro areas
- 120km/h on the motorway

Directional signs are in a different color:
- green signs on motorways ("vignette" sticker required)
- blue signs on regular roads

It is mandatory during daylight hours to drive with the lights on.

Pets:
For our four-legged friends, be sure to bring their medical records and provide up-to-date proof of vaccinations.
The pets must be vaccinated against rabies. The rabies vaccine, with proof in the form of a vaccination certificate, must be dated at least 21 days and no more than 12 months before entry into Switzerland. The 21-day waiting period is not required for regular annual boosters.
